有限会社北八建設は1950年より瓦製造からスタートした福井県勝山市の地域に根づいた建設会社です。私たちは2022年より関わり、北八建設の社員のみなさんと共に地域内のリサーチや国内事例の視察を積み重ね、北八建設がこれからどのような事業を展開をしていくかという事業構想の部分から一緒に考えてきました。昨年6月には、事業構想を社内全体で発表するイベント「北八縁日#001」を社屋と社屋前の道路を使用し行いました。2年間のリサーチ活動を通じて見えてきた「無いからつくる、有るからいかす。垣根を越えてめぐりをつくる」をコンセプトに北八建設のすでにある技術を活かした、新しい事業を立ち上げています。
現在は社屋近くの古民家改修計画と社屋改修の計画を北八建設、伊藤維設計事務所、フォルクの協働で進めています。社屋近くの古民家改修は「沢のいえ プロジェクト」とし、カフェとイベントスペースの機能を持った地域の交流拠点を計画しています。ランドスケープデザインでは既存の庭のブロック塀を取り壊し、コミュニテイ畑を計画し、まちにひらきます。解体時に発生するコンクリートガラなども資源として敷地内で活用します。また、敷地内の既存樹も伐採してしまうのではなく、レスキューし他の現場で活用していく計画です。このように、材料や技術を地域の中で循環させながらつくることを目指します。
KITAHACHI KENSETSU is a construction company deeply rooted in Katsuyama City, Fukui Prefecture, which began as a roof tile manufacturer in 1950. We have been working with them since 2022, collaborating with KITAHACHI KENSETSU’s employees to conduct extensive research within the region and visit case studies across Japan, and have been working together from the very beginning to develop a business vision for the company’s future direction. In June 2024, we held “KITAHACHI ENNICHI #001,” an event to present the business vision to the entire company, utilizing both the company building and the street in front of it. Based on the concept that emerged from two years of research—“Create what is missing; make the most of what exists. Cross boundaries to create connections”—we are launching new businesses that leverage KITAHACHI KENSETSU’s existing expertise.
Currently, we are advancing plans to renovate a traditional Japanese house near our office building and to renovate the office building itself through a collaboration between KITAHACHI KENSETSU, tamotsu ito architecture office, and FOLK. The renovation of the traditional house near our office is known as the “Sawa no Ie Project,” and we are planning it as a community hub that also functions as a bento shop. For the landscape design, we plan to demolish the existing concrete block walls in the garden, create a community garden, and open the space to the neighborhood. Concrete debris generated during demolition will be reused on-site as a resource. Additionally, rather than cutting down the existing trees on the property, we plan to rescue them and repurpose them at other job sites. In this way, we aim to build while circulating materials and techniques within the local community.
