Project Summary |
うつほの杜学園は「世界、地域社会、自然界と繋がり、自分の力でグローカルに活躍できる人を育む、小・中一貫校」を設立するプロジェクトです。
和歌山県田辺市中辺路町の中川と富田川2つの川の合流地点に位置する、廃校の小学校をリノベーションします。
ランドスケープデザインでは、「子どもが地域を育み、地域が子どもを育む学校」を目指し、これからの校庭のあり方を考えます。対象地を含め周辺の豊かな自然環境や先人が積み重さねた歴史や文化を大切にしながら、地域と連携し、植物を使った遊びを通した学びの庭をみんなでつくり、育てていきます。
現在は、2025年4月の学校開校に向けて準備を行っています。
2024年3月にはうつほの杜の学校づくりに共感し、和歌山県内外の方が集まっている「学校おこし協力隊」の皆さんや、熊野の森を自然林に戻す活動をされている地域のNPO法人「熊野の杜ネットワークいちがしの会」の皆さんと協働し、廃校になって以降10年間手を入れられていなかった校庭の木の間伐を自分たちの手で行いました。また、間伐の際にでた枝葉で校庭に大きなバイオネストを作りました。
今後も、オンラインミーティングと現地でのワークショップを通してうつほの杜学園の校庭をみんなで考えつくっていきます。
UTSUHO ACADEMY is a project to establish "an integrated elementary and junior high school to foster people who can connect with the world, local communities, and the natural world, and who can be active on a glocal scale on their own.
The school is located in Kawai, Nakahechi-cho, Tanabe City, Wakayama Prefecture, and will be renovated from a closed elementary school.
The landscape design aims to create a "Schools where children nurture the community and the community nurtures the children," and considers how the schoolyard should look like in the future. The schoolyard will be created and nurtured together, incorporating collaboration with the local community and education through plants.
Preparations are currently underway for the opening of the school in April 2025.
In March 2024, we collaborated with members of the "Gakko Okoshi Cooperation Corps ," a group of people from Wakayama and other prefectures who sympathize with the UTSUHO ACADEMY project, and members of the Kumano no Mori Network Ichigashinokai, a local NPO that is working to restore Kumano forests to their natural state. They thinned the trees in the schoolyard, which had not been touched in the 10 years since the school was closed, by themselves.
Through online meetings and on-site workshops, we will continue to think about and create the schoolyard of Utsuho no Mori Gakuen together.
